Dear colleagues
We are pleased to announce that a PASAI regional workshop will take place on 20–22 May 2026 in Nadi, Fiji, as part of the Global Project on SAI Independence, jointly developed by IDI and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Background
The Global Project offers a renewed approach to understanding and promoting the independence of SAIs, highlighting not only the legal framework but also the non-legal factors that shape SAI independence. Its final output—a joint IDI–OECD report—will be released at the end of May 2026.
The report draws on extensive evidence gathered through surveys, country visits and regional workshops, including the PASAI workshop held in New Caledonia in August 2025. The report will include recommendations not only for SAIs but also for the Legislative and the Executive.
Workshop objective
Although the report’s findings are not yet public, this workshop will serve as an early and strategic opportunity for PASAI members to:
explore new avenues for constructive engagement with key stakeholders to strengthen SAI independence
discuss how PASAI could structure a regional follow-up agenda to support implementation of the Global Project’s recommendations
identify countries interested in piloting these recommendations and shaping their own work programs.
Participants will include the PASAI Secretariat, IDI, OECD, Inter-Parliamentary Union, regional parliamentarians, development partners from the region, the World Bank and the IMF.
IDI will cover travel and accommodation costs for heads of SAIs from countries included in the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) list.
We will share further details on registration, the agenda and logistical arrangements shortly.
We look forward to your participation in this important event.
